EDUCATION
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Carleton University, Ottawa, in 1970, David has acquired numerous formal qualifications in finance. In addition to becoming a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI), he has passed the National Commodity Futures and Canadian Futures Examinations, and has completed the Canadian Options Course, Parts 1 and 2 of the Chartered Market Technician (CMT), and other professional programmes. During his years at CIBC and CTSL, David managed more than $25 billion in money-market and derivatives portfolios. He maintains an active membership in the Canadian Society of Technical Analysts. He sharpens his perceptions of price movements with the Omega Tradestation technical-analysis tool. Every week he addresses a diverse readership with a fresh issue of his Technical Scoop newsletter. David also writes regular articles for Investor's Digest of Canada, Canada's largest investment advisory newspaper. No wonder, then, that the financial press including the Globe and Mail has on several occasions quoted David's conclusions. David appears regularly as a guest commentator on ROBtv - Report On Business.
PHILOSOPHY
David believes in delivering clear cut advice to his clients. When they contemplate unwise decisions, he says, "I tell them." David finds that he can guide his clients to rational decisions by filtering the daily barrage of news and commentary. The challenge to investors and their advisors, he maintains, is to discern the real information--the signal to buy or sell--from the rhetoric and noise. David maintains that there is more than one path to success. Success can come from buying on fundamentals and holding for the longer term. Success can also come from a disciplined, active trading strategy which emphasizes sector rotation. By adding to the scrutiny of fundamentals his special expertise in the technical analysis of price movements, David seeks to deliver higher-than-average returns on aggressive client portfolios.
